THE BL&P’s GRID CODE
INTERCONNECTION REQUIREMENTS APPROVED
The Fair Trading Commission and the Government Electrical Engineering Department have approved the Barbados Light and Power Company Limited’s (BL&P) Grid Code Interconnection Requirements at Voltages 24.9kV and below.
The Commission issued a Notice for Consultation on the Grid Code on May 3, 2017. The Consultation period ended on June 2, 2017. The Grid Code was reviewed and approved in conjunction with the Chief Electrical Officer.
The Grid Code outlines the technical, legal, planning and operational requirements for the installation or modification of Distributed Generation projects connecting to the BL&P. These interconnection requirements are necessary to preserve the safe operation of the BL&P’s distribution system and maintain reliability and quality of service to BL&P’s customers. In addition, they must abide by the requirements of the Government Electrical Engineering Department, BL&P’s Safety procedures and other relevant standards and must be compatible with BL&P’s standard operating, protection, control and metering systems and practices.
