PRESS RELEASE
FTC LAUNCHES MARKET STUDY
ON THE POULTRY SECTOR
The Fair Trading Commission has launched a study of the poultry sector in Barbados, as part of its overall mandate to monitor the nature and extent of competition within economic sectors in Barbados. The aim of this exercise is to: identify the separate markets that exist along the value chain; describe the activities within each market; highlight the key stakeholders at each level of the value chain; identify the issues that affect both customers and stakeholders; and address these issues in accordance with the Fair Competition Act, CAP. 326C.
Information for this study will be collected through a series of interviews with stakeholders along the value chain (i.e. farmers, distributors, suppliers). A survey will also be used to determine the experiences of consumers regarding their interactions with suppliers within the poultry industry in Barbados. Ultimately, the research will enable the Commission to identify and address any activities that may hinder competition in the sector or be detrimental to consumers.
Members of the public are therefore encouraged to participate by visiting https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ZWWBYH3 . The link may also be accessed at the Commission’s Facebook page, www.facebook.com/BarbadosFairTradingCommission .
