ISSUANCE OF RENEWABLE ENERGY LICENCES

On December 30, 2022 and December 31, 2022, respectively the Fair Trading Commission (“the Commission”) issued the following two (2) decisions:
  • Feed-In-Tariffs for Renewable Energy Technologies Up to and including 1MW;
  • Feed-In-Tariffs for Renewable Energy Technologies Sized above 1MW and Up to and including 10MW.
The decisions which came into effect from January 1, 2023 set out rates, categorised by size and technology, at which renewable energy generators will sell energy to the Barbados Light and Power Company Limited.

The Commission and the Ministry of Energy and Business (“MEB”) now jointly wish to inform the general public that, on the issuance of the licence by the MEB, the applicable tariff will be the one that is in effect, as defined by technology and size, at the date when the application is deemed VERIFIED in the MEB’s Application process.

For clarity, a VERIFIED status signals that the Applicant has provided the MEB with all of the necessary components to be assessed for approval of an Application.

Furthermore, when rates are changed by the Commission, a potential licensee will be given the rates that were in effect at the date of verification as explained.

The FIT decisions can be accessed here.
